Two Pieces Fashion Of News You Definitely Want To Know About Zac Posen

The Daily is reporting that among his many cool projects currently in the works, Zac Posen is hard at work on a "lower priced line." The designer did a capsule collection for Target Australia last winter (damn those Aussies! They have the most gorgeous guys and Zac Posen for $49.99!), but this time around...

1203zac-posen-panel_fa2.jpg

it sounds like he's working on a diffusion line to be sold through his own company, a la Marc by Marc Jacobs. "We've been in the process of building our lower priced collections," he told The Daily. "So we've been busy assembling our team for that starting with our fragrance." Color me ecstatic!

I also got this funny little tidbit from Posen yesterday afternoon when I attended a panel discussion, moderated by Tim Gunn, on "Redefining the Rules of Fashion in Today's Economy" presented by the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund and sponsored by DOW XLA. The take-home message was pretty standard ("We will get through this! Creativity is more important than ever! Young designers are our future!") but Posen did make me giggle at least once. When Tim Gunn asked him how the relationship would change between designers and retailers in this crappy economic climate, Posen had a very informed and nuanced answer, detailing his desire to keep merchandise fresh, keep creating, blah blah blah...and then said that if you're retail strategy isn't working, it's time to reconsider. "Sell dresses door to door!" he said. "That could be exciting, right?" Oh Zac, if you rang my doorbell, I'd gladly interrupt dinnertime to buy a chiffon gown from you, I swear I would!

What do you guys think of Zac Posen at Target prices? Would you line up for it? And if he came knocking on your door, would you buy a dress from him?

The Men's Fashion Two Piece Pant Suits

Men's fashion two piece pant suits have undergone considerable change over the past years.

Popularization of the Suit

In 1666, a decree was filed that mandated all men wear suits and wigs when appearing in the English court. From here, the suit popularized as a formal outfit. However, these suits were bright in color, ornately decorated and made of luxurious fabrics, much unlike the suit of today.

Even as late as the latter 1800s, the man's suit jacket worn with matching pants was considered plain and informal. Men's jackets were to be worn with odd-striped trousers to "liven" up the pairing.

Somewhere toward the early 20th century, the pairing of a man's suit jacket with matching pants became accepted for business.

Where Did the 3rd Piece Go?

Throughout history, a man's suit always included a vest. However, during World War II, there were cloth shortages. As all citizens had become used to doing, men gave up their vests for the good of the country. Vests had a short comeback after the war was over, however, men had begun to enjoy the freedom from this third garment, and vests quickly went out of style, again.

Men's Fashion Two Piece Pant Suits

There are a variety of styles of men's two piece pant suits. However, the main two styles are the double-breasted and the single-breasted suits.

Typically, a man's single-breasted suit has two to three buttons. The lapels have little to no overlap. The taller a man is, the more likely he able to elegantly wear a three-button jacket. However, many men today find it more reasonable to wear a jacket with only two buttons. Very tall men may choose a coat with four-buttons, because they have the height to carry off the extra emphasis at the front of the coat.

A double-breasted suit coat has two rows of buttons with lapels that overlap. These jackets usually have two or three pairs of buttons on them. Double-breasted jackets are said to be more conservative than their single-breasted counterparts are and always in style. However, overweight men do not tend to carry these jackets off as well as men with thinner builds.

Suit Etiquette

  • Buttoning of Jacket: Double-breasted jackets should always be buttoned. Single-breasted jackets may be left buttoned or un-buttoned, but the preferred is buttoned with one at the bottom left free. If a man has a jacket with functioning buttons at the cuffs, he may choose to leave one of these buttons open to demonstrate that he is wearing a bespoken suit.
  • Color: Conservative colors such as navy, gray, charcoal or brown are typically considered "the" choice for business wear.
  • Pattern: Solids are by far the most popular and accepted; however, pinstripes often have a look about them that makes them acceptable for business. Patterns with large shapes in them are not in fashion.
  • Ties: Typically, your tie should be darker than the color of your shirt. The colors within the tie should reflect the colors of the suit and the shirt. There are various knots from which to choose when tying your necktie, but the most popular is a variation of the Windsor.
  • Dress Shirt: Men should wear a long-sleeved shirt of woven fabric under their suit jacket. Iron and tuck the shirt into the trousers. Classic colors are white or light blue, but fashion of late has dictated that men have more color choices, including bolder, brighter hues such as red or lavender. The shirt collar should be pressed and look tidy underneath one's jacket.
  • Socks: Never wear white socks! Your socks should be the same color as your trousers, thus making them an extension of your leg.
  • Breast pocket: It's up to you whether you include a handkerchief that shows from the breast pocket. It's a little less common for men to wear this today, but still considered a look of class.

Locating Your Suit

It's not that difficult to locate your very own men's fashion two piece pant suit. Many department stores carry a men's dress department. If you're looking to spend more on a suit, check into having a suit made for you by your local tailor.

Freida Pinto Models for Dolce and Gabbana

Freida Pinto has taken to the catwalk to model for fashion house Dolce & Gabbana.

The stunning actress strutted her stuff in Milan yesterday, in a show attended by the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Kate Hudson.

Wearing a cream frilly mini dress, complete with a big leather belt the Slumdog Millionaire star looked gorgeous alongside all the towering models.

Freida has become the darling of the fashion world of late, after wowing style critics with her dress choices throughout awards season.

She topped our best dressed list two weeks in a row, and there's already rumours of her signing up to front some high-profile fashion campaigns.

All this and she's just signed up to appear in a Woody Allen flick- not bad for someone we'd never heard of this time last year...

She may be on the way to becoming a household name following the success of Slumdog Millionaire. But before her rise to fame Freida Pinto was once an young aspiring model.

Before she was famous: Freida is pictured during her first fashion shoot as a model

She was selected for several ad campaigns including ones for De Beers diamond, Skoda and Wrigley chewing gum as well as working as a catwalk model and a covergirl in India.

The 24-year-old worked as a model for two years before meeting Danny Boyle who eventually cast her as Latika in the award winning film about a boy from the slums of India who take part in a game show.

Mr Martis said: 'Frieda first came to me in 2005 via a common friend. She wanted to enter a hairstyle competition and asked me to photograph her.

'The moment I saw her I recognised that Frieda was going to become a model. In fact, I suggested she audition for some modeling jobs.

Star quality: Freida was 21-years-old when these pictures were taken but her talent was not missed

'She knew how to play for the camera in her very first shoot.

'I am delighted she is getting such attention now. She did a great job and deserves it.'

It was when Freida went to work on a travel show on the Asian satellite channel Zee, when Danny Boyle spotted her.

'Frieda was very excited about getting a break in Hollywood. She told me all about her big chance but then, I didn't know - no one did - that it was going to be such a big hit with lots of awards and fame.'

Freida says she has been given guidance from Angelina Jolie and Kate Winslet.

She told an Indian entertainment channel: 'Angelina is just like, 'Embrace it. Enjoy it and keep it real. Don't get affected by all this, enjoy every moment'.

And she said of Kate: 'Every time I have a question, she's always there to answer it. I really think it'd be fun to work with Winslet because I found support in her.'

It comes as Danny Boyle is named best director by the Directors Guild of America for Slumdog Millionaire.

It is classed as a key Oscar indicator as only six times in the 60-year history of the awards has the winner failed to take an Oscar for best director.

Angelina Jolie say : You Are Fashion Forgiven

Despite what she's put us through, we just can't stay mad at Angelina Jolie.

After an entire award season of virtually the same look, the actress and mother stepped up her game for the Academy Awards, dazzling in a black Elie Saab dress with a sweetheart neckline.

The star of the outfit, without a doubt, are the jade accents from both her earrings and oversized cocktail ring by Lorraine Schwartz.

While she may not take the Best Actress trophy for her performance in Changeling, she certainly wins our hearts with her gorgeous gown.

Previously, Angie has baffled at the Golden Globes, repeated the trend at the Critic's Choice Awards and then just plain insulted us at the Screen Actors Guild awards.

Between the dress, and Brad Pitt, we're officially over it. Zoom in on her jewels!

Oscar fashion: Angelina Jolie bucks the white-night trend with a dramatic black dresses

Did someone send a memo? Last year, everyone wore red. This year, it's a white wash. Taraji Henson, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tomei and Penelope Cruz all went pale, with shades from ivory to white.

Hathaway's dress looked like porcelain sculpture, with layered pailettes creating a fish-scale effect. But the top seemed ill-fitting, and the lack of color made her ivory skin appear almost translucent.

Never a follower, Angelina Jolie wore black. And she's now showing off her post-twins curves.

Sarah Jessica Parker on the red carpet at the 81st Academy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 22.

Sarah Jessica Parker must miss Carrie's tulle tutu. Her Dior Haute Couture -- which she described as "barely mint" or "maybe seafoam" -- was trailing yards of tulle. It's vaguely reminiscent of the wedding gown from the 'Sex and the City' movie. We're just missing the feathers. No word if the shoes are Manolos.

Amy Adams' multi-stone collar is a heavy-weight winner at the 81st Academy Awards Sunday, Feb. 22.

The jewelry is stealing the focus from all the dresses this year. Necklaces are making statements up and down the red carpet. I'm guessing Amy Adams' multi-stone jeweled collar weighs at least 10 pounds, and Heidi Klum surely will need physical therapy just from all the heavy metals swallowing her wrists and fingers.

Actress Freida Pinto's John Galliano gown has a Bollywood feel as she arrives for the 81st Academy Awards Sunday, Feb. 22. She stars in the much-nominated 'Slumdog Millionaire.'

With a smile like that, Freida Pinto could wear a sack and still be a stunner. She seems to radiate sunshine. And her John Galliano gown has a Bollywood feel, with its rich indigo color and intricate embroidery and beading.

She stars in the much-nominated "Slumdog Millionaire."

Heidi Klum is part of the one-shoulder trend on the red carpet at 81st Academy Awards Sunday, Feb. 22, night.

The one-shoulder dress is a story unto itself tonight, Feb. 22 at the Academy Awards.

Early adherents to the trend: Freida Pinto, in a gorgeous indigo gown, and Heidi Klum in a structural, origami-like red gown. It's the second year Klum has worn red to draw attention to the American Heart Association's women's heart health awareness campaign.

Miley Cyrus arrives for the 81st Academy Awards Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009.

Disney princess Miley Cyrus is playing the part. She looks like she stepped out of Cinderella's castle in a champagne, petal-tiered gown. The cut-out back and dipping neckline gives it a modern edge, but without being too risque for her age.

Taraji P. Henson, nominated for an Oscar for best actress in a supporting role for her work in 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' which was filmed in New Orleans.
A sideways glimpse of Taraji Henson showed a stunner of a necklace. It looks like flowers studded with diamonds. The statement choker could be a big trend tonight. Henson's ivory dress is gorgeous, with torn ruffles cascading down to the train.

Robin Roberts of ABC News wears a dress by J.Crew as she arrives for the 81st Academy Awards.
Robin Roberts has borrowed a move from Michelle Obama's fashion play book. She's in a slim-fitting, red halter-neck J.Crew column dress. It's not going to win the award for best drama, but it has a certain understated elegance.

Actress and singer Beyonce Knowles arrives for the 81st Academy Awards Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles.
Oh, Beyonce, honey. That black and gold dress is like something a rabid Saints fan would wear if our team ever made it to the Superbowl. And that would at least be forgiveable, because, well, we'll lose our minds if the Saints ever make it to the Superbowl.

Angelina Jolie’s fashion style at the Golden Globes Today

I know many readers love to know what Angelina Jolie is wearing when she appears on the red carpet for different events. One question I’ve seen pop up is whether she was wearing the same shoes for the Golden Globes as the ones she wore earlier in the week for the Critics’ Choice Awards. It’s not a strange question since she has worn the same tan Christian Louboutin heels to many events, and we know that she’s been wearing those infamous love-them or hate-them nude flats into the ground.

However, it turns out that no, while they did look similar because of the similarity in color of her dress both nights, they were not the same shoes. For the Globes, Angelina Jolie wore silver Jimmy Choo heels.

If you’re curious about her wardrobe, the full details of what Angie wore to the Golden Globes can be found right here.

Let’s do an informal poll since the reviews have been so mixed. Did you love Angie’s sparkly silver gown at the Globes? Hate it? Did you feel sort of neutral?

For me, I thought the dress was gorgeous. I wasn’t completely sold on the fit of the top part of the gown, but I’ll bet it was really comfortable, especially when you’re going to be enjoying a meal too - can you imagine wearing a super form-fitting gown and then eating? Mostly though, I loved the silver color which I think goes nicely with her hair color and her beautiful eyes. I also absolutely love the long slit up one leg, really sexy without being over-the-top.

The Oscar fashion: Fish tails and flops, the best and worst red carpet dresses

With so much competition on the red carpet an actress needs to stand out from the crowd, but some of Hollywood's finest stole the limelight for all the wrong reasons at last night's Oscars.

Fashion star Sarah Jessica Parker took up half the red carpet in her frothy over-the-top Dior gown. The pale green full-skirted dress was topped off with a rib-crackingly tight corset that showed off the Sex And The City star's tiny waist but failed to control her burgeoning decolletage.

Best supporting role: Sarah Jessica Parker struggles with the full skirt and tight corset of her Dior gown on the red carpet at the 81st Oscars

Between breathing in and sorting out the billowing skirts the actress shouted above the crowds: 'It's barely mint', before rushing inside to manoeuvre herself into her seat.

She also complained her gown was 'very plumped up, it's killing me'.

The 44-year-old actress arrived hand-in-hand with husband Matthew Broderick, dispelling rumours of marital discord.

Other actresses flirted with the fishtail look. Beyonce added a touch of bling to the red carpet as she squeezed herself into a black and gold strapless dress by Armani Prive before changing into her stage outfit of top hat and tails for her performance with host Hugh Jackman.

Strike a pose: Beyonce, Vanessa Hudgens and Melissa George flirt with the fishtail look

Darling of High School Musical, Vanessa Hudgens, looked older than her 20 years in a sensible black fishtail dress. The figure-hugging, strapless corset gown with over-fussy leather flower details was created for her by British designers Marchesa.

Australian actress Melissa George wore a white skin-tight bodice that exploded in a sea of netting at her feet.

According to our fashion guru Liz Jones, reporting live from the red carpet, the fishtails played havoc with clumsy men who kept tripping over the frothy fabric.

Another to go for the fairy princess theme was Penelope Cruz who arrived in a white vintage gown with silver embroidery, designed by Pierre Balmain. The sixty-year-old ruched chiffon dress had a touch of the bridal about it but was saved by her understated hair and make-up.

Fairytale: Penelope Cruz in her vintage Balmain dress and Miley Cyrus in a scalloped glitter trimmed gown

Later Miss Cruz won the best supporting actress Oscar in the evening's first award for her role in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Early to arrive and first to show off her dress was 16-year-old Miley Cyrus, star of TV show Hannah Montana, in a silver and white embroidered ballgown with long train. The fussy gown swamped the petite young star and looked more Disney princess than glamorous actress.

With her mother at her side the singer laughingly said she was 'star-stalking' and hoped to meet Angelina Jolie - and be adopted by her.

Sticking with neutral coloured gowns were Evan Rachel Wood, Jessica Biel and Anne Hathaway, nominated for best actress for her work in Rachel Getting Married.

All white: Anne Hathaway, Evan Rachel Wood and Jessica Biel all chose neutral shades for their strapless gowns

While Anne Hathaway pulled off the neutral look in her Armani Prive jewel encrusted strapless number, Jessica Beil struggled to make an impression in a dove grey duchesse satin bow dress by Prada.

Bringing a blast of colour to the red carpet were Natalie Portman, Heidi Klum, Alicia Keys and Daniel Craig's partner Satsuki Mitchell, all in shades of pink and red.

As well as catching the cameras lens in their bold block colour creations, Alicia Keys and Heidi Klum wowed with thigh-high splits, showing off reams of bronzed leg.

Veteran actress Meryl Streep chose an understated yet flattering mushroom-coloured gown by Alberta Ferretti, while Queen Latifah controlled her abundant curves in a corseted midnight blue gown.

Understated elegance: Meryl Streep in Alberta Ferretti, Kate Winslet in Yves Saint Laurent and Queen Latifah

Meanwhile, on a more elegant note, Oscar winner Kate Winslet looked stunning in a black and blue silk and lace Yves Saint Laurent gown.

After going through three stylists in her attempt to find the perfect dress the Oscar-nominated British actress finally settled on the asymmetrical one-shoulder gown, created especially for her by Stefano Pilati at YSL. 'It's designed for comfort,' she told Mail Online today.

Actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Jennifer Aniston, left, and John Mayer

Two's company: Angelina Jolie and partner Brad Pitt avoided meeting his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston and her partner John Mayer on the red carpet as the couples attended the same public event for the first time

Fellow Best Actress nominee Angelina Jolie stuck to her favourite black, offset with eye-catching emerald teardrop earrings. She arrived arm-in-arm partner Brad Pitt, who wore a classic tuxedo.

Also on the red carpet was Pitt's ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, with on-off partner John Mayer. It was the first time the two couples had attended an event together, although they carefully avoided a public meeting.

No stranger to the worst-dressed list, Tilda Swinton's edgy looks are always a bit hit and miss. This year was no exception: her drab beige Lanvin number, was draining on the complexion and shapeless.

Mixed bag: Nicole Kidman on stage in a feathered strapless dress, Tilda Swinton was all wrapped up in edgy Lanvin and Reese Witherspoon presents an award in an electric blue and black creation

Older but not wiser: Goldie Hawn, Whoopi Goldberg and Sophia Loren fail to make the fashion grade

Director Danny Boyle led the children, and adult actors, of Oscar front runner Slumdog Millionaire onto the red carpet in Los Angeles.

Huge cheers went up from the crowd as Dev Patel and Freida Pinto arrived at the Kodak Centre in Hollywood for the show with the younger versions of their characters.

Daniel Craig and Satsuki Mitchell
David Frost and wife Carina

Pride of Britain: Bond star Daniel Craig and partner Satsuki Mitchell joined David Frost and wife Carina

During an interview with American host Ryan Seacrest Patel and Pinto denied rumours they are a real-life couple.

Other Britons treading the red carpet included Bond star Daniel Craig and Frost/Nixon star Michael Sheen, who revealed that he would be sitting next to Sir David Frost - whom he portrays in the film - as the winners were read out.
