The Tips How to Wear Gladiator Sandals?

Who would have thought in 2006 when gladiators reemerged onto the market, that they would be such a bit hit. Initial reactions were certainly mixed but in the last 2 years we have seen them evolve into every possible permutation you can image. From chunky masculine straps, sky-high 5-inch heels, warrior-woman knee-highs, mid-calf, ankle boots and flats. More recently they have emerged in more feminine styles, with elegant ultra-thin straps and embellishments.

First on the market to accompany the Grecian gown and Roman toga trend, gladiators have outlived their counterparts. The most famous gladiator sandals of them all (so far) have been Balenciaga’s warrior woman, colored knee-highs, favored by so many celebrities.

However, as time goes on, more and more women are realizing that gladiators can be tricky things to wear. If you are lucky enough to be tall and slim then you can look good in any style, but if you are short or have thick calves you need to choose more wisely.

How to Wear Gladiators

These shoes make a style statement all their own so make sure and wear an outfit that doesn’t compete. Gladiator boots are best worn with simple dresses and gladiator sandals look great with skinny jeans.

The Height

One criticism of gladiator boots and sandals is that, unless your legs are very slim or you are tall, they can shorten the leg or make the calf look chunky. Sandals that end at the mid-calf disect the leg at its widest point. This length is best balances out with a high-heel. Knee-high gladiators give the appearance of longer legs more than those which end at the mid-calf. They complement a simple mini dress or sexy shorts.

Below the ankle styles are fail safe. When it comes to teaming them with other outfits you can wear them with pretty much anything, floaty mini dresses, summery maxi dresses, Grecian toga-style gowns, shorts, jeans and skinny pants.

Color Choice

Soft neutral tones are more flattering and versatile if choosing knee-length gladiators. However, if you want to make a fashion statement then shiny patent or vibrant colors will give your outfit a pop. Black and dark brown straps can have the effect of making legs look thicker, whereas metallic colors are more slimming.

Gladiator Styles

To elongate the leg and foot choose a style with a solid strip of leather that bisects the foot in the center. According to “How to Wear Gladiator Sandals,’ in Madison magazine, October 2008, if these are teamed with skinny trousers then they have the added bonus of creating a line from hip to toe.
